The National Trust for Historic Preservation has named Unity Temple to its list of America’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places. This annual list highlights important examples of the nation’s architectural, cultural and natural heritage that are at risk of destruction or irreparable damage.
This designation shines a spotlight on the vulnerable condition of Unity Temple, and calls attention to its significant and urgent restoration needs. Unity Temple’s community of supporters has been steadfast and generous, and the restoration effort has been ambitious. But the deterioration has surpassed efforts to restore the building, and Unity Temple’s survival is endangered and requires a multi-million-dollar rescue effort.
